I then downloaded the latest version of the NXT software from Lego's website along with the NXT Fantom drivers. Once they had downloaded, Mavericks did not want to let me open them. So I went into the Security and privacy settings in System Preferences and set it to allow apps downloaded from anywhere to run. I was then able to run the Lego NXT installer. Once the Installer had began running I got a notification from Mavericks stating there was a problem, I ignored it as the installer continued to proceed. Once the NXT installer told me it was successful I closed the error message that Mavericks had given me. I then went into the NXT disk image and found the file titled "Parts" and opened it. I then ran the "legodriver.pkg" and once it had installed I then installed the NXT Fantom drivers. After the NXT Fantom drivers completed their install I then clicked the OK button from the NXT installer that was asking for permission to restart the computer. The computer restarted and then I went into Applications and opened the Lego MINDSTORMS NXT. It took some time but it ultimately opened and I was able to use the program except for the "My Portal" as I mentioned previously.

I should point out that previously I had installed the LabView runtime and the VISA drivers for a different project. I don't know if that had an effect or not, but here is what I had installed before I install the NXT software:

I also tried installing the latest NXT software on an iMac running Mountain Lion. Unlike the MacBookPro in my prior post, this iMac did not have the LabView runtime or the VISA drivers installed. The NXT software is working fine here too.

Communication with the NXT requires that the Mindstorms NXT Driver v1.02 or newer is installed. The zip can be found on the MINDSTORMS Update page. If you have any difficulties communicating with your NXT you may not have the Fantom drivers installed properly. See the NXT Fantom Driver Help document for assistance.

An alternative to achieve the installation of a working environnement for the NXT Bricks is to use the scripts in the archive: lego.install.tar.bz2 or on the (more recent) git repository: git@github.com:Gaudeval/nxt-rtos-setup.git ( -rtos-setup). 2ff7e9595c
